The 3 Rules of Firearm Safety
Always Keep the Muzzle Pointed in a Safe Direction
Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy.
Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have made the decision to shoot.
Be Certain of Your Target and Beyond
Know what is in front of, beside, and beyond your target.
Master the Fundamentals of Firearm Safety
Every certified instructor emphasizes these core principles. Understanding and practicing these rules is essential to responsible firearm ownership.
Always Keep Muzzle Pointed Safe
This is the golden rule of firearm safety. Always be aware of where the barrel is pointing at every moment. Never point it at anything you are not willing to destroy. This rule applies whether the firearm is loaded or unloaded.
Keep Finger Off Trigger
Keep your finger off the trigger until the moment you are ready to fire. Your trigger finger should remain outside the trigger guard until your sights are on target and you have committed to shooting. This prevents accidental discharge.
Be Certain of Target
Know what your target is and what lies beyond it. Understand your surroundings and what could be affected by your shot. Be aware of people, obstacles, and terrain. This responsibility continues even after you have fired.
Additional Safety Guidelines We Cover
Assume every firearm is loaded at all times
Use proper eye and ear protection at all times
Inspect your firearm regularly for proper function
Store firearms securely and keep ammunition separate
Never use alcohol or drugs when handling firearms
Train regularly to maintain and improve skills
